Lauren BannisterAssistant SENCO
Describe your school: Mainstream school, 11-16 years, Stockton-on-tees
Did you trial the ExamReader initially, if so, what “review process” did you follow and what conclusions did you draw? We didn't trial the ExamReader prior to purchasing them, however a neighbouring school uses them and recommended them to us.
What do you most like about the ExamReader? We liked how clear the spoken words were and how it could pick up different fonts and size of text fairly well.
Please describe how you are using the ExamReader? We bought the ExamReader a little time prior to the exams to allow the pupils time to trial and practice using them within lessons before the exam.
Please describe how the use of the ExamReader has affected your students? I can only comment on how it has supported our pupils’ confidence and anxiety issues prior to the exam. As they will be the first year this year. However, some of our very anxious pupils are less worked up due to the knowledge and support that they have practiced and are going to receive during the exams. It is these pupils who are reluctant, even in small groups rooms, to put their hand up during an exam and ask the reader to read for them.
Please describe any other areas in school you feel the ExamReader has helped? We can reduce rooming this year with the use of the pens, this impacts on less staffing and therefore allows us to offer more support in other areas due to the cost saving.
How likely are you to recommend the ExamReader to others? Very likely.
Any other comments you would like to add? We are looking into investing into the classroom set.
