Placing Orders
Yes schools, universities, colleges etc are able to do this. Please email a copy of the Purchase Order to [email protected]. We will then process the order for you, quoting the PO number. You will then be invoiced as normal.
If you want to take advantage of the 30 day trial then you can also create a PO in your system for this and send this over to us. It then means that the invoice for the trial pen quotes the correct PO number which helps your Finance Department to process payment if the trial is successful.
Please go to www.scanningpens.co.uk, www.readerpen.com or www.examreader.com and click 'Request Trial’ on the drop down tab. Then select School. We will then process an order in our system for the trial pen which will be dispatched from our warehouse within 2-3 days. You will receive an invoice shortly after dispatch but this is not a commitment to purchase. If the trial is successful then please process the invoice as normal. If you wish to return the pen then please contact us and we will send Returns Instructions.
Please note that the prices quoted on our website exclude VAT and shipping costs. Discounts are available for schools, universities and colleges if orders are placed for 5 pens or more.
Orders are usually delivered 3-5 days after being dispatched from our warehouse.
If you need a quote from us prior to purchase, then we can do this for you. Please email [email protected] and we will arrange this for you or contact us via livechat.
For a customers first trial order we will deliver duty paid (i.e. we will pay the taxes). However subsequent orders will not be delivered duty paid and therefore the customer will need to pay import VAT to the courier before the courier will make delivery.

In simple terms the Reader 2 scans printed text, reads aloud or via headphones the text as it scans, and stores what it scans. The scanned text can then be sent as a text file via USB to your computer and then be inserted into other documents such as Word or Powerpoint. The Reader 2 also has a voice recorder and a dictionary function, including English, French and Spanish.
The ExamReader 2 is the orange pen. This pen scans printed text and reads aloud or via headphones as it scans. The key difference between the ExamReader 2 and the Reader 2 is the fact that the ExamReader 2 does not store anything.
Yes the pens are designed to scan printed text on paper, but not on a screen.
Make sure the pen left/right hand setting is properly set up. To do this go to the main menu – settings – left/right handed. When the pen touches the paper the trigger is activated and the scanning light comes on. Ensure to hold the pen rather straight up from the paper (80-90 degrees angle). Starting about 1 cm to the left of the word or sentence you want to scan, start moving along the text line.
There are several reasons why this might be the case:
- The pen may struggle with some fonts or with coloured paper.
- Ensure that the pen is set to read in the correct language.
- Check that the pen is set up for left or right handed use.
- The pen is being held in the correct way (see ‘How to Scan’ section).
Check volume settings in Reading Settings. If there is a lot of background noise, headphones may be required.
To enable the ReaderPen to be used in tests, it is possible to lock down some functions within the pen, namely the access to dictionaries and any stored content (text and audio files). Exam lock is protected by a pin code to prohibit the student unlocking the pen during the test. The same pin is used to unlock to normal mode.
Scan to file is used to capture printed text inside the Reader 2. The text is stored in txt files in the memory. The text can be read out loud if required, and also single words can be selected and looked up in the dictionary. The files can also be uploaded to a computer.

Your device is designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures with 62-72 degrees Fahrenheit (16-22 degrees Celsius) as the ideal range. Avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures exceeding 95 degrees Fahrenheit or 35 degrees Celsius which can permanently damage battery capacity.
Long periods without use can impact battery health, subject to the storage temperature and the percentage of charge on the battery when it is powered down for storage, e.g. during long summer holidays.
Therefore we recommend the following
- Do not fully charge or discharge the battery – charge to around 50%
- Power down the device
- Store in a cool moisture free environment less that 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degrees Celsius.
- Top up charge to 50% every 3 months
During regular use
- Do not run battery completely flat
- Do not leave pen connected to charge when fully charged
